Channel 4 To Remake 'The Snowman' For Winter 2012

The Snowman is to be remade for Channel 4, it has been announced.

The classic 1982 Christmas classic has been a yearly staple of the channel since its first broadcast. It is to receive a "fresh, not identical" remake in time for winter 2012.

The original 26-minute animation film was based on the 1978 story by Raymond Briggs, and was directed by Dianne Jackson.

The new version will be made using traditional animation techniques by most of the original creative team, and will cost £2 million. It will be screened as part of Channel 4's 30th anniversary programming in November 2012.

It will feature new elements of the story including a new boy, a snow dog as an extra character, and will see updated landmarks as they fly around Britain, such as the London Eye.

TV's fiercest critic will be casting his eye over the last 12 months of media madness

Good news for fans of acerbic TV crit shows - Charlie Brooker’s 2011 Wipe has been confirmed as part of BBC4’s end of year schedule.

The show, which has become something of an annual tradition, will see the bequiffed broadcaster taking a look back at everything significant (and hopefully funny) that’s happened in TV, films, gaming and news over the past 12 months.

Alongside Doug Stanhope, Adam Curtis and Brian Limond, Brooker will be charting the inexorable rise of Pippa Middleton’s bottom, the August riots, scripted reality shows, the demise of the News of the World and much, much more.

“God knows what we’re going to cover in this – as everybody knows, hardly anything happened this year,” said Brooker, presumably with his tongue disappearing between his molars.

Anyone wanting a hearty chuckle at the last 12 months…
