SONY DEVELOPS THE WORLD’S FIRST GHOST-CATCHING DEVICE
The Proton Pack™ will be the first of its kind to capture ectoplasmic matter.
The Proton Pack™ is equipped with a state-of-the-art, miniaturized superconducting synchrotron, which accelerates injected protons from a hydrogen plasma cell. Superconducting temperatures are maintained by a liquid helium reservoir, and an active cryocooler ensures that operational time vastly exceeds that available from a cryogen dewar alone. Adaptive beam-steering technology guides the proton beam to an ergonomic wand, which doubles as a beam-halo tuning cavity to provide maximum down-range accuracy. The backpack form factor allows built-in psychokinetic grounding to the user’s spinal column, eliminating spectral noise feedback loops.
In development for over 30 years, the Proton Pack™ benefits from the newest innovations from Sony Corporation’s acclaimed prod…

Terry Brain, the co-creator of the classic animated children's series Trap Door, has sadly passed away, aged 60.
Brain's son David confirmed the animator 'passed away peacefully' on Friday morning. He had been battling cancer for two years.
David said: 'He was my hero - an amazing guy, funny. Right up until the last time I saw him…he was still trying to crack jokes through it.'
He added that Terry was close to completing a brand new 12-part series before his death.
Brain continued: 'Dad was a smiley, relaxed person – and a veteran in the industry, who inspired many young animators.
'Right up to the end he was making his own series in his spare room. He was four seconds of animation away from finishing a 12-part series he'd been doing, and we’re going to try and get someone to finish it off for him. So there's still more to come.
'He wouldn't have wanted people to know he was in pain, just enjoy his stuff.'
Rockstar had plans to make Grand Theft Auto: Tokyo, and even carried out a reference trip for the game, techradar has learned.
Rockstar visited the Japanese capital several years ago to assess its potential for a full GTA game, but ultimately pulled the plug on the idea, according to a source close to the company.
Before working on a new game Rockstar carries out reference trips to take pictures, meet locals, and generally get a feel for the area.
Techradar's source said that Rockstar was "serious" about the idea of making a Tokyo version around the time of GTA 3 and Vice City, however the road system was seen to be problematic and became one reason the idea was canned.
In December 2003, Take-Two Interactive actually filed trademarks for GTA: Tokyo, GTA: Bogota as well as the particularly mysterious Grand Theft Auto: Sin City.
Techradar's source added that, as time has gone on, Rockstar has realised the difficulty in moving Grand Theft Auto outside of the USA, where …
Sony Pictures has released a brand new image from their upcoming Ghostbusters movie!
The shot features the new crew - Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy), Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon), Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig) and Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones) - as well as their receptionist, Chris Hemsworth.
Sony Pictures (via Empire) has released a shiny, brand new image from their upcoming Ghostbusters movie, featuring the title heroes preparing for a fight and lighting up their proton packs!
The electrifying image shows the new line-up of (from left to right) Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy), Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon), Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig) and Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones), unloading their proton packs at a winged demon in a rock concert, in a scene briefly glimpsed in the trailer.
"I wanted my ladies to be badass," Paul Feig told Empire. "I wanted them to get in over their heads and fight ghosts. I like the idea of them having to enter a giant setting and take on ghosts."
There has been, it must be said, quite a reaction to the new vintage of Ghostbusting, and some of it has been fairly poisonous. But Feig's response has been unapologetic.
"I like action movies," he tells Empire. "I got to play with that in Spy, and it felt very natural …
While he only got a small amount of screentime in the original Ghostbusters films, Slimer quickly became one of the most iconic specters to appear in the movies. He was integral in marketing, merchandising, and even the animated series.
To celebrate the famed character, NECA has announced that they will be releasing a life size version of Slimer, which will be 3 feet tall!
Furthermore, it was recreated from the actual molds used for Onion Head in the original 1984 film and each one will be hand-painted!
According to NECA's website, the foam rubber and latex-based replica will be available this coming August.
Check out photos of the figure below.

In addition to this summer's forthcoming Ghostbusters reboot from director Paul Feig, the original film's producer and director Ivan Reitman confirmed that there was another Ghostbusters film in development that would be scripted by Drew Pearce and directed by Anthony & Joe Russo. Later buzz brought back rumors that Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt may star in the movie. But since then, fans haven't heard anything about the proposed Ghostbusters spin-off, but that unfortunately changes today.
Now that the Russo brothers have taken on both parts of The Avengers: Infinity War for Marvel Studios, the duo is no longer involved with making the new Ghostbusters. But that doesn't mean it’s not still in the cards.
Speaking with Forbes (via Latino Review), here's what Joe Russo had to say about their involvement with a Ghostbusters project at Sony Pictures:
"There was a period there when Paul Feig was engaging Sony in talks about GHOSTBUSTERS and we were also engagin…

Cryptozoic Entertainment and Sony Pictures Consumer Products are launching a Kickstarter campaign next month to raise enough funds to release Ghostbusters: The Board Game II!
Following last year's successful Kickstarter campaign and retail release of Ghostbusters: The Board Game, the second game in the series boasts new game elements, including Slime Blower Pack Ghostbusters, Ooze entities that can split apart and join back together, allies and new equipment like Ecto Goggles and Portal Destabilizers.

To celebrate 60 years since Hancock's Half Hour began, the BBC is remaking many of its classic sitcoms, with a raft of prequels, sequels and remakes coming to BBCs 1, 2 and 4 this summer.
Keeping Up Appearances, Are You Being Served?, Porridge and Up Pompeii! are getting modern follow-ups by today's comedy writers, while Steptoe and Son, Till Death Do Us Part and Hancock's Half Hour itself will see 'lost' episodes remade on BBC4.
Are You Being Served? is a direct continuation of the department store sitcom, set in 1988 with a new cast. Prison comedy Porridge, originally starring Ronnie Barker, will follow Fletch's grandson as he's banged up for cybercrimes. Young Hyacinth is a one-off special following the snooty Mrs Bucket (pronounced Bouquet, we're led to believe) as she tries to move from lower middle class to the ranks of the upper middle class.
Classics all, but it's BBC4 that might feature the biggest culture shock – the bigoted Alf Garnett in T…
Rumours of a second Beetlejuice movie have been circulating since 2012, with RadioTimes.com reporting last year that director Tim Burton and actor Michael Keaton were in talks about a sequel.
And now Burton has confirmed that plans for a follow-up to the 1988 horror-comedy are very much alive.
"The film is a go and has been approved by the Warner Bros. team," Burton told ShowbizSpy. "We have talked with the cast members we wanted for the film and they are all on board, this includes both Winona [Ryder] and Michael [Keaton]. We have the script in hand everything is in place all we need to do now is get ready to start filming."
Mythbusters may be over, but Adam Savage's Tested lives on. This week they make a working ghost trap!:
We're super excited to reveal a project we've been working on for the past few months. Sean Charlesworth has designed and built a replica of the ghost trap prop from the original Ghostbusters films. This prop pulls the best features from the traps that appear in the films, using as many original found parts as possible and the rest 3D printed. It even has a working pedal to activate lights, sound, and smoke!
Not content with its upcoming all-female revival, the studio had been quietly developing a Ghostbusters animated movie via its Sony Pictures Animation, and that project has taken one step closer to reality.
Fletcher Moules, the rising animator and helmer behind the hugely popular animated Clash of Clans commercial spots, has signed on to direct the movie.
Ivan Reitman, co-creator of Ghostbusters and one of the stewards of the franchise, would act as one of the producers.
Sony, a studio with fewer franchises than some of its rivals, is betting big with Ghostbusters. Apart from the new movie, which opens in July, the studio created the Ghost Corps, a collective with Reitman and Dan Aykroyd, to head up the expansion of the franchise and to create a Ghostbusters cinematic universe.
The studio is already in development on a movie that would potentially star Channing Tatum with Joe and Anthony Russo,…
Sony Pictures Entertainment has unveiled their first international trailer for their upcoming Ghostbusters movie!:
Sony's international promo for Paul Feig's film appears to address the controversies over all-female casting and Leslie Jones' 'street-smart' New Yorker character.
It might just be the most controversial remake since Gus van Sant's shot-for-shot reworking of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. Now a new trailer for Paul Feig's Ghostbusters appears to reference some of the criticisms levelled at the film, as well as offering up our first proper look at Chris Hemsworth's receptionist, Kevin.
Last week studio Sony debuted the first full promo for Ghostbusters. While the reaction was generally positive, some Twitter users continued to bemoan the shift to an all-female team that had led to threats of a boycott from some sections of the internet last year. Meanwhile, the actor Leslie Jones has come in for rampant trolling on social media over her &quo…
Following the release of the first Ghostbusters trailer yesterday, fans watching with Ecto Goggles noticed a special hidden message written in a equation on the paranormal labs whiteboard, which leads fans to visit the website for The Kenneth P. Higgins Institute of Science Paranormal Studies Lab website, ParanormalStudiesLab.com!
The viral website features a featurette that dives into the science and making of the new proton packs. And if you think they just slapped these packs together to look cool, think again. Because James Maxwell, the guy who made these proton packs, is a resident particle physicist at MIT, and he really took the time to think about the science of how the proton packs would work!
And if you go explore the site, you'll find images of the other new Ghostbusters gear, such as the new ghost trap, PKE meter and the Ecto-1, along with cool little schematics of each item that might help you if you're planning on doing some cosplaying as the new Ghostbusters. He…
Sony Pictures Entertainment has unveiled their first trailer for their upcoming Ghostbusters movie!:
Gotta admit, the reboot does look good!
This trailer starts by nudging your nostalgia with familiar music and visuals, including a shot of the original Ghostbusters HQ (FDNY Hook & Ladder No. 8 firehouse). Then, once we get to the new stuff... it still feels familiar. We see a library ghost, Slimer, proton packs, and Ecto-1 - but everything is just slightly tweaked and modernized. Even the characters, three radically different scientists and a local resident, mirror the original film.
Speaking to an audience of super fans in Los Angeles (who stood and cheered the trailer, twice) as well as members of the press, Feig explained that the nostalgic feel of the trailer is part of the movie itself.
“I’d be bummed if I didn’t see the Ecto-1 and all that stuff,” he said. “So we wanted to make sure we give those nods—but make them our own, and give them their own original…
The Boston Herald is reporting the exciting Ghostbusters news that the upcoming Ghostbusters movie will explore the back story of everybody's favourite ghoul, Slimer! But don't say I told you. Because it's supposed to be a secret!
Please note that this post contains spoilers about the upcoming Ghostbusters movie that you may wish to avoid.
In the reboot, Slimer will appear during the Ghostbusters' first official gig, reports The Boston Herald. The 'busters - Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones - are called to Rockefeller Center to dispense with the ghost of a fat Mafia guy. Voila, Slimer!
In the latest edition of Last Week Tonight, host John Oliver dedicated the 21-minute "Main Story" segment of his show taking down and ripping Republican front-runner Donald Trump apart, and it is just as epic as you'd expect!:
Our main story was about Donald Trump. We can't believe we're saying that either.Posted by Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on Sunday, 28 February 2016
The former Daily Show correspondent has had issues with the Donald in the past after Trump claimed Oliver 'invited him' on his show 'five or six' times.
Oliver said that wasn't true and has since avoided giving any air time to Trump.
However, on Sunday, he could hold back no more.
During the clip, Oliver attacks Trump on multiple principles and ends the segment reveal Trump's original family name of 'Drumpf', which has since gone viral.
Oliver acknowledged that Trump can be appealing because he is 'unpredictable and entertaining'.
